versus Gull Lake

GULL LAKE 43, PARCHMENT 36: Parchment (7-14) gave Gull Lake a surprise and a scare before losing its second game this season to the Blue Devils. The surprise was how much the Panthers had improved since dropping 39-point decision to Gull Lake. The scare was how close the Blue Devils came to ending their season prematurely. The score was tied 31-31 late in the third quarter. ``In the postseason everything is different,'' Gull Lake coach Pat McMullen said. ``We're just trying to get the win to advance and they're playing as though it's the last game of their career.''

Parchment junior center Jeannie Closson scored a game-high 16 points, had eight rebounds and blocked five shots for the Panthers. Sophomore Carrie Grubius hit three 3-pointers to lead Gull Lake with 10 points. Erin Goebel added nine points and six rebounds. ``I hate to see the season end the way we've started to play,'' Parchment coach Larry Bailey said. ``I told the girls that we could take a lot of positives out of this loss.''
