May 5, 2010

PARCHMENT, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) Police in Parchment are looking for suspects after a fire beneath the bleachers at the high school. It happened Wednesday shortly after 9:00 pm. When firefighters arrived they found a fire burning beneath the home side bleachers. Some old high jump and pole vault mats had been set on fire.

The fire was quickly put out but the flames were so intense that a large section of the aluminum bleachers melted. Fire investigators are saying that this is a case of arson. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 269-342-1622 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100. There is a $5,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the fire. Call 1-800-44-ARSON to report a tip.

Several events will change location because of the damage to the bleachers. Officials with the school say to check the Parchement Schools Web site for more information.
